Welcome to Cyber Security Awareness Month

Today marks the start of Cyber Security Awareness Month (CAM - as in the US its "Cybersecurity"), a month dedicated to helping individuals understand more about the threats and risks they face, and the approaches they can take to mitigate them.

Cyber Security Awareness Month, now in its 21st year, was started in 2004 by the US President, George W Bush, and congress. It was designed as a time dedicated for the public and private sectors to work together to raise awareness about the importance of cyber security.

Over the years this has been adopted by many countries and businesses and is often used to engage with staff in imaginative and creative ways.

ICA Consultancy have been working with our clients over the last couple of months to get them ready to engage with their staff and help them increase awareness and accountability across their operations.

Here are some of the initiatives we have helped them with:

  • Delivery of bite-sized training content, videos and stories to staff through email, Teams, Slack and Google Chat

  • Delivery of tips, advice and guidance through the same channels

  • Learning campaigns designed to help staff understand personal risks

  • Blog posts and emails on various topics

  • ICA Consultancy presentations on topics such as Identity Crime, delivered as an interactive or recorded session

  • Infographics and custom videos, branded for the client

Utilising our connections across the industry, we have also helped them arrange and deliver:

  • Cyber Escape rooms

  • Webinars with a reformed identity criminal

  • Fireside chats with key security vendors

October isn't just a month for Cyber Security, there are also other awareness days within October that may be worth including within your CAM calendar Although, some of these are quite the stretch:

  • 9th October - International Beer and Pizza Day

    • Perhaps have pizza available in drop-in sessions on specific cyber security topics

  • 10th October - World Mental Health Day

    • Consider how stress and cognitive overload can impact individuals' cyber resilience

    • BONUS CONTENT: We have an infographic coming on this next week

  • 14th October International E-Waste Day and the whole week is Recycle Awareness Week

    • Consider promoting the benefits of secure disposal

  • 21st October National Clean Your Virtual Desktop Day

    • Perhaps promote your Clean Desk and Screen policy

  • 29th October National Internet Day

    • Perhaps promote the risks of shopping online, or how to protect children online

  • 30th October National Checklist Day

    • Consider promoting a checklist of actions staff can take to secure themselves

However you utilise this next month, do so in such a way to engage your staff and support their awareness. As always, if we can help, please do get in touch.
